8:00 am -- Julie Archer, co-coordinator of WV Citizens for Clean Elections, will discuss preemption, a method used by some state lawmakers to prevent the courts from resolving disputes, and limit the power of the courts over claims by citizens against corporations. Preemption -- prompted by the influence of $$$$ over politics -- is used by the far right American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC), some trade groups and others to negate elections, perpetuate racial and economic inequality, and limit local anti-discrimination efforts, according to Julie's organization < WV Citizens for Clean Elections > and the Piper Fund, which is backing the WV group's clean elections and fair courts work. She'll be giving us a preview of an Aug. 8 webinar entitled "Power Grabs in the States: Countering Preemption." Click here to RSVP.
