Heidi Hanrahan grew up on Long Island, New York. She holds a BA in English and History from Roanoke College and an MA in Literature and PhD in American Literature Before 1900 from the University of North Carolina, Greensboro. Heidi teaches American and British literature, composition, and women’s studies at Shepherd University. Her main poet is Emily Dickinson, the subject for this Poetry Monday, December 12, 2016. Her second main poet is Walt Whitman, who will be the subject for a subsequent Poetry Monday. Heidi is also the faculty sponsor of the Shepherd University chapter of Sigma Tau Delta National English Honor Society, which hosts an annual literary conference on Shepherd’s campus.
